The Penn State Alumni Association

What’s been happening:

Our family currently has its fourth generation student at Penn State - Kristin Hartmann, who is a Freshman, registered in Engineering, and a goalkeeper on the women's soccer team. Not only is she the fourth generation of our family to attend Penn State, but is also the eighth member of our family to be at Penn State. Others are as follows: -- Claribel Nisley and her brother Wilbur Nisely in the 1920s. -- Susanna Wescott (my wife)and Bill Hartmann (my brother) in the 1950s. -- David Hartmann and Robert S. Hartmann (our sons)from 1977 to 1982 (one year apart in age). Also Kristin's sister Michelle Hartmann has been accepted at Penn State, and there is a good chance that she will be attending starting in the fall of this year. Incidentally, your information about me shows my graduation in 1953 with a BS degree but does not include the fact that I received an MS degree at Penn State in 1956. Since I am almost out of room, let me mention that you may want to look at Bill Hartmann's web site to see what a success he has made out of his education. His web site is www.psi.edu/hartmann. He has received a number of international awards in his field, has written several books (including one that was/is(?) used by the Penn State Astronomy Department, etc. He is the astronomer that proposed the now-accepted theory of how our moon was formed.
